February is synonymous with Valentine’s Day. Instead of focusing on the schmoozy side of this celebration, why not turn your love inwards?
Loving your body will reap rewards greater than the most passionate of love affairs. Top of the list when it comes to practising self-love is to fight stress and fatigue with pure relaxation.
The adrenal glands summon the responses of your body to every physical, emotional, or psychological stress. Hormones regulate energy production and storage, immune function, heart rate, muscle tone, and other processes to enable you to cope with the stress.
Most often associated with prolonged or intense periods of stress, and after infections (particularly respiratory infections such as ‘flu, bronchitis, or pneumonia), adrenal fatigue is a collection of signs and symptoms resulting from below par adrenal gland functioning.
The syndrome is tricky to identify, because people experiencing adrenal fatigue may look and act as if they have no obvious signs of physical illness. However, symptoms include:
- Feeling tired for no reason, especially in the early morning and mid-afternoon.
- Trouble getting up in the morning, even after a full night’s sleep.
- Feeling rundown or overwhelmed.
- Difficulty bouncing back from stress or illness.
- Craving salty and/or sweet snacks.
- Feeling more awake, alert and energetic after 6PM than you do all day.
Take good care of yourself
-Eliminate foods that cause inflammation.
-Eat lots of brightly coloured vegetables, lean clean protein, and whole grain gluten-free carbs.
-Go to bed before 11pm – many people get a second cortisol surge after 11pm, which further disrupts sleep patterns.
-Stay well hydrated throughout the day.
-Build rest into your day.
-Alter your perspective.
