Does My Funeral Policy Plan Cover A Covid-19 Death?

Young woman looking at documents

The past year has undoubtedly shown the tragedy that can ensue when unpredictable situations such as Covid-19 arise and the necessary planning is not in place. In light of the recent confrontation of our own mortality, funeral cover policyholders are encouraged to familiarise themselves with their policy coverage and exclusions. Total Risk Administrators will cover your funeral if you or a close family member on your policy were to succumb to Covid-19. Here is more information on our Funeral Cover Policy and Covid-19:

Benefits of funeral cover product choices

Funerals can quickly become very expensive, resulting in unnecessary stress on your family during a traumatic time when there is no funeral policy in place. Our Funeral Cover Policy offers benefits to the main policyholder and their immediate family members (children under the age of 21). We have various membership categories with different premiums for you to decide how much funeral coverage you would want for your family members. Should one of the registered beneficiaries pass away, a pre-determined lump sum will be paid to a policyholder or a nominated beneficiary. We understand that South Africans are under financial pressure, which is why our Funeral Cover Policy has options to cover you and your family for a dignified funeral from as little as R25 per month.

What cover can I expect for a Covid-19 death?

Our Funeral Cover Policy has a 6-month waiting period unless the cause of death is accidental. A Covid-19 related death is considered a natural death, which means that we will pay any valid claims relating to Covid-19 by applying our standard 6-month waiting period. If you are an existing policyholder on our Funeral Cover, and you no longer have a waiting period, your full benefits will apply should you or an insured family member pass away from Covid-19.

However, please bear in mind that this is still subject to all of the standard t’s and c’s, so read through the full terms and conditions or your policy document, and subject to sending through all of the documents required for a valid claim etc.
