Car Checklist for Your Festive Season Road Trip

Car checklist for roadtrip

While the excitement of a holiday can make you rush, the main aim of a family year-end trip is to ensure all belongings are packed in the car for a safe and sound journey to and from your destination.

Careful planning and preparation will ensure your journey is safe and easier for you – just what you need after a hectic year.

You definitely do not want a car that is not in roadworthy condition to spoil what you are so looking forward to. Here are some tips in the form of a handy car checklist that will help you get on the road with as little fuss as possible.

You Car Checklist

“Life is a journey. Enjoy the ride.” – Nissan

Know your ride

Familiarise yourself with all the moving parts of the vehicle you will be driving: use the various buttons on the dashboard to check if your indicators, interior lights, and headlights work, change the light bulbs in them, and add windscreen wiper fluid, transmission fluid, and oil. The owner’s manual should become your bedside reading in the week leading up to your trip.

Check your tyres

Make sure that your tyres (including the spare wheel) are in decent shape. Match the tyre pressure to the specs in the car’s manual.

Grab medical supplies

Pack a first-aid kit and a basic toolbox.

Make sure you’re covered

Sign up for roadside assistance and proper travel insurance. Print out those contact details, as well as any other emergency numbers to access in case your phone battery dies. Also, make sure your medical aid and gap cover is in order and that you have all the documentation close.

What’s gap cover? Gap Cover is similar to an insurance policy. It covers the shortfall between your medical bills and what your medical aid covers.

Check out our products and ensure the gap is covered this festive season.
