3 ways to tell if you doctor is patient-centered focused

Woman talking to her doctor

Doctors in modern times are educated in taking a more patient-centered focused towards their practice. This is when a doctor takes their time educating their patients about their disease and/or conditions. They also include the patient as well as the family members in the full treatment procedure. Look at the list below to see if your doctor is patient-centered focused:

1. They Treat you like a person:
It has often been found that doctors tend to be so focused on the medical problem that they forget that they are dealing with a person who has emotions, concerns and fears. If your Doctor makes sure that you are treated like a person and wants to address all of your feelings and concerns etc. , then he/she is a patient-centered doctor.

2. They develop a partnership with you:
This is where your doctor treats you as a partner in making your healthcare decisions. They do not make the decision for you, but instead let you have a voice in the final decisions made.

3. They maintain an ongoing relationship:
This is where the doctor is familiar with the patient’s unique circumstances. The doctor wants to know what is going on in their patient’s life. This way it helps the Doctor help choose the best treatment to suit that individual patient and their life.

If your Doctor meets the 3 above points then he/she is most certainly patient-centered focused. It is important to remember that when you are looking for a doctor, you should find someone who matches your style and personality. Spending the time getting to find the right doctor will not only help determine how satisfied you will be, but will also help you to trust and follow their advice on how to treat you and your family.
