World Blood Donor Day

World Blood Donor Day

On the 14th of June every year, World Blood Donor Day is celebrated.

It is a day to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for saving many lives by donating their blood and to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donation to ensure the quality, safety, and availability of blood and blood products for patients in need.

The focus of this year’s campaign:

This year’s slogan is “Be there for someone else. Give Blood. Share life.” It aims to encourage people to care for one another and create a community that helps.

According to the World Health Organisation, “The campaign aims to highlight stories of people whose lives have been saved through blood donation, as a way of motivating regular blood donors to continue giving blood, and to motivate people in good health who have never given blood to begin doing so, particularly young people.”

How to get involved:

Find the nearest blood donation centre and donate blood.

Spread the word, whether it be by word of mouth or social media.

Commit to becoming a regular blood donor by donating every 8-12 weeks.
