Gap Cover is an additional product added to your health insurance. As a benefit of your gap cover policy, you have access to travel insurance and a range of other benefits.

Eligibility for the Travel Benefit
To access the benefits, you are required to meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of South Africa travelling abroad or a non-resident travelling to South Africa.
- Be under 71 years of age.
- Travel for business or leisure purposes (not for permanent/temporary residency or work).
- Stay abroad for no more than 180 consecutive days.
- Be healthy, fit, and not travelling against medical advice.
- Purchase the policy before departure.

2025 Travel Policy Overview
Emergency Medical Expenses – Covered
Coverage up to R1,000,000 for inpatient and outpatient treatments you need in the event of an emergency.
Benefits include but are not limited to:
- Emergency Medical and Related expenses: R1 000 000
- Medical Evacuation, Repatriation or Transportation to a Medical Centre: Actual expense covered when arranged by Hepstar Financial Services.
- Personal Accident Cover: Death: R25 000 / Permanent Disability: up to R25 000
- Theft or Accidental Damage during trip: R5 000 / Single item limit: R1 500
- Theft, Damage or loss by Airline: R5 000 / Single item limit: R1 500
- Baggage Delay (more that 4 hours): R500
- Baggage Delay (more that 24 hours): R1 000
Exclusions include but are not limited to:
- Sub-limit: Adventure Sports/Hazardous Activities
- Sub-limit: Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
- (more than 48h hospitalisation)
- Sub-limit: Vascular, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular conditions
- Sub-limit: Terrorism
- Sub-limit: Optical and Dental
- Physiotherapy or manipulative therapy
Top-Up Coverage Options
For additional peace of mind, TRA offers a Travel Benefit Top-Up Plan. The top-up plan includes, but is not limited to:
Cancellation, Curtailment, and Postponement
Reimbursement up to R50,000 for listed reasons such as:
- Visa denial (sub-limit: R25,000).
- Unexpected illness or death of a close relative/travel companion.
- Damage or burglary at your home exceeding R50,000.
Baggage and Personal Possessions
Coverage for loss, theft, or damage up to R30 000:
- Single item limit: R5,000.
- Replacement of essential items for delays over 24 hours: R2,000.
Flight Delays and Missed Connections
- Compensation for delays over 4 hours: R1,000.
- Alternative economy ticket costs for missed connections due to flight delays.
