5 Tips to Prevent Colds and Flu

During the colder winter months, it is important to look after yourself to make sure that you do not get the common colds and flu that go around. There are many different ways in which you can prevent colds and flu, so rather take the extra precautions. See below the five tips on how to prevent colds and flu this winter:

1. Get a Flu Shot:
The flu shot is a good way to prevent yourself from getting the common strands of flu that go around. However, it cannot prevent a cold virus.

2. Wash your hands:
Washing your hands may seem trivial. However, it can completely get rid of a virus that has come in contact with your skin. That is why doctors and nurses wash their hands before and after every interaction with a patient.

3. Keep warm:
It might seem like something your grandmother would say! Yet, it can really help to avoid coughs, colds and the flu. If you are cold, your body tends to shiver and shivering depresses the immune system. This makes us more likely to catch colds.

4. Avoid getting too close to people who are sick:
It does not mean that you have avoid them entirely. Still, take precaution when around sick individuals, for example, don’t shake hands.

5. Keep up a healthy lifestyle:
It is important to make sure that you eat food with lots of nutrients and keep exercising throughout the colder months. This supports your immune system by keeping you healthy.

Make sure to follow the above steps and you should have the Flu and cold free winter. If you do however start to feel like you are starting the flu or a cold! Make sure to visit your local chemist to doctor to see how you can stop it before it gets worse.
